Jon Bernthal has been cast as Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher in the Netflix Original Series ‘Marvel’s Daredevil.’ Marvel made the announcement on Tuesday. Here’s what the company’s Head of Television Jeff Loeb had to say about the casting:

“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

How’s that for a slice of fried gold? Just when you thought Daredevil couldn’t be any more awesome than it already is, Marvel had to go and pull something like this. Daredevil and The Punisher have had a tumultuous relationship in the comics, to say the least (see below image) and it should make for some pretty compelling material.

Marvel has yet to steer us wrong with its casting choices, and I’m a big fan of their decision to bring Bernthal into the loop. The announcement doesn’t mention anything about Punisher being a series regular, but, hey, I can dream, can’t I? I expect a casting announcement for Elektra and (fingers crossed) Bullseye should happen in the not-too-distant future.
