Many of us are still reeling over the loss of Firefly. I mean, it’s part of the reason ShowVote was formed – in the hopes that we never have to see another show we love get kicked to the curb by short-sighted network execs.

One thing you can say about Firefly fans is that they are a passionate, outspoken group and they have kept the legacy of the show alive and kicking long after its untimely cancellation in 2002. The new video game Firefly Online, currently in development by Spark Plug Games and Quantum Mechanix, may help ease the show’s passing by immersing fans in an online world inspired by Joss Whedon’s classic show.

Per the official Firefly Online website:

In Firefly Online, players assume the role of a ship captain as they hire a crew and seek out adventures, all the while trading with and competing against the millions of other players to try to survive in the Verse: find a crew, find a job, keep flying.

FFO provides a variety of gameplay activities and systems so that players can fully experience life in the Verse.

Assume the role of a ship captain – create a crew and customize a ship
Aim to misbehave in space and planet-side adventures
Cross-platform player experience across devices (pick-up and play from anywhere)
Unique social features connecting Firefly fans
Create a shiny ship and explore the Verse

Sounds pretty cool, right? Well, it gets cooler. Check out the below video to watch Nathan Fillion reprise his role as Serenity captain Malcolm Reynolds.

Firefly Online is due for an unspecified release sometime this spring.
