Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter Renewed, New Spinoff Axed

Lots of great news for Marvel fans. On top of the news that Agents of SHIELD will be returning for a third season, ABC also announced that Agent Carter has been renewed for its second. Despite lukewarm ratings, critics and audiences were rather taken with Agent Carter, and for good reason. Its debut season was fun and smart with some knockout performances. Where Agents of SHIELD has become bogged down trying to justify its place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Agent Carter allowed for some more straightforward, period piece action and excitement.

Plus, Hayley Atwell. ‘Nuff said.

Not all is sunshine in roses in the Marvel realm, however. The proposed spinoff starring Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood has not been given the green light. I’m not too broken up about this though. The last thing Agents of SHIELD needs is to stretch itself thinner with a spinoff, losing two of its better characters in the process.

Meanwhile, Oscar-winning screenwriter John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) is quietly working away at a secret project for ABC/Marvel. Sounds like something that could add some nice variety to the ABC outings, but nothing confirmed as far as what it might be about or which characters are involved. Speculate away, Marvel-ites!
